You might notice that there’s a new little
accessory friend hanging out on our mantle. That’s Dwight the deer, and he’s the newest addition to our ceramic (or ceramic-looking) animal collection. He may or may not technically be a Christmas ornament from Kohl’s, but we decided that he is way too amazing to only be pulled out once a year.
Corey and I don’t have a ton of accessories throughout our house, though our collection is slowly growing. This little mantle is probably the spot in our house that has the most concentrated (and put-together) collection of accessories, and it makes me smile every time I see it – especially with the addition of Dwight.
We definitely aren’t big on a ton of tchotchkes throughout the house, but we love small pops of accessories here and there, and we feel like they can really pull a room together. The accessories that currently live on our mantle are probably not the accessories that will stay there long-term. We have major plans for this fireplace area, one of them including a giant ceramic deer head hanging over the mantle. Once we get around to tackling that project, Dwight and the milk glass vases will have to find a new home elsewhere in the house. But until then, I’ll keep telling him hello every morning when I come down the stairs (come on, you know you talk to your accessories too) and I’ll let him sit there as a little reminder of what we hope to eventually accomplish for this fireplace!
Are you a big tchotchke person, or do you prefer to keep it simple?
