I can’t believe how quickly Corey and I are approaching the big move to Austin! We’re a little bit nervous, a lot excited, and we’re starting to plan out all of the things we want to do and see one last time before we leave good ol’ College Station.
Last night, we started to make a list of all of the things we want to do before the move, so I thought that for our 3 month post, I’d write it all down so we can make sure to get it all done!
1. Take one more walk through campus.
We want to go visit all of the places we loved about campus…we’ll walk by Kyle Field, go have lunch in Sbisa dining hall, and make sure to go take a walk through the Century Tree.
Legend has it that if a couple walks under the Century Tree, they’re destined to be together forever. You’ll often see couples walking through campus with the guys actively trying to avoid going anywhere near the tree, while the girls try to subtly pull him in that direction. 😉
While we’re on campus, we also want to make sure to visit everyone’s favorite statue – Sully.
We’ll leave some pennies at his feet for luck in our move, just like the hundreds of students do every day for luck on finals, papers, or just making it to class on time.
2. Carve our names into a booth at The Chicken.
The Dixie Chicken has been here since my dad was in college at A&M (and probably even before that) and it’s a favorite hangout of many students and former students. The walls and booths are covered in names and other carvings, and Corey and I want to make sure to leave our mark before we leave!
3. Visit the George Bush Presidential Library
The George Bush Presidential Library is a museum dedicated to the life of President George H.W. Bush. Corey and I aren’t huge museum people (and we aren’t exactly huge Bush fans or anything, either), but the museum is a pretty big deal around here and we don’t want to leave town without at least seeing it!
4. Visit Messina Hof one last time.
Corey and I are huge fans of the local winery (we drink their wine almost exclusively) and we’re going to be sad when we don’t live near it anymore. We’ve already discovered that it’s not very easy to find a good selection of Messina Hof wines in Austin, and we’ve gotten spoiled by having a ton of their wines on the shelves of every grocery store in town.
We want to make sure we go visit the winery one last time – with some money set aside so we can stock up on all of our favorite wines before we leave town!
5. Go dancing on Northgate.
If you want to go drinking or dancing on any given night, Northgate is pretty much your only option around here. It’s a small strip of bars and clubs (similar to Austin’s Sixth Street, but on a much smaller scale) and it’s pretty much the only interesting thing to do on a Friday night.
Corey and I aren’t huge bar people, so we’ve only been to Northgate a handful of times while we’ve lived in College Station, but we want to visit one more time before we leave. We’ll go dancing at Daisy Duke’s, get a Chocolate Cake shot at the Dry Bean (YUM), and just walk around and reminisce about college.
I can’t wait until our move to Austin, but there are definitely some things about this town that I’ll miss – once we complete this list, I think we’ll both be a little more ready to say goodbye to the first town we lived in as adults and move on with our lives. Three months to go!
If you were leaving the city you live in now, what are the things you’d want to do one last time before you go?
