After our house tour post, I had several people mention that it looks like we’re limiting ourselves a bit to just gray and yellow, and we needed to branch out on our colors.
And you’re absolutely right.
You see, we have big plans to bring in some color to our house, we just haven’t gotten there yet. Most of the stuff we own is in a pretty neutral palette (with the few obvious pops of yellow) and we don’t currently own anything that really fits the color scheme we eventually want to have throughout the house.
But, trust me when I say the lack of color isn’t because we don’t want it – we just wanted to come up with a cohesive plan before we actually executed anything, since the bottom floor of our house is very open. We didn’t want to buy anything too colorful until we had come up with some sort of a game plan for the rest of the house, so we could be sure everything would go together.
And guess what? We finally have a plan.
We’ve known for a while the colors that we wanted to bring in throughout the house, but we hadn’t found anything representative of our desired color palette (a Sue, if you will). However, his weekend we went shopping for some new placemats for our dining room table, and we found it. The perfect item to represent the overall color scheme we want for our house.
We’ll talk about what it actually is later, but for now I want to focus on the colors. Yellows, blues, greens, and purples. Perfection.
We are so excited to finally have a good representation of all of the colors we want to infuse throughout our house, and we’re pretty thrilled with the actual item as well.
Now that we have a good jumping off point, I did some more fabric searching and I feel like we’re starting to get a pretty good feel for the fabrics and colors we want to bring in throughout the lower level of our house.
Keep in mind that we have plans for ways to bring in color other than through just fabric (like a centerpiece for our table, rugs in the living and dining rooms, and other accessories throughout the rooms)
Lots of pattern, lots of color, and lots of fun! We’re dying to get started on bringing these fabrics (among other things) into our house, and we can’t wait to see the difference it makes in adding some life to our downstairs.
Once we get started, we’ll probably also bring in several other fabrics in the form of throw pillows for our couch (since our giant sectional is seriously lacking in colors and pattern) but we’re going to wait to decide on what those will look like until we get a few things put in the room, so we know exactly what we want.
We’ve definitely been taking our time making decisions relating to the things we want to bring into the house, but we’ve changed our minds so many times that we’re glad we’ve waited! We both have a tendency to get things without thinking about it, and then later realizing we’d be happier with something else, so giving ourselves time to make sure we’re really happy with our decisions has been a good move for us. But now, we’ve taken our time, we know what we want, and we’re ready to start executing it!
Do you plan ahead before you buy things for your home, or do you like to jump right in and buy without a plan?
