Our Fall Bucket List: Update

We’ve been working on crossing things off of our fall bucket list and it’s coming along pretty nicely! Rather than one big update at the end, I thought I’d do a mini-update each month on how we’re doing. So, here’s what we crossed off the list in October:

Go to the pumpkin patch.

We went to a local farm that has a huge pumpkin patch pretty early in the season. Of course, it was still 90+ degrees outside so it hardly felt like a real pumpkin patch trip! I’m hoping to go to a smaller, more local one this week to get some good family photos, but this trip definitely counts for the list!

Carve or paint a pumpkin.

We did this Sunday morning in our pajamas. It was fantastic. Low key, no-stress, and totally fun. Jackson was enthralled with the pumpkin and kept trying to put it back together. When we got it totally cut, he was all about getting it super clean and ready to display. It was adorable.

Have a football-watching party.

We had some family and close friends over this past weekend for soup, football, and a board game. We didn’t all watch the entire game (because it was a quite depressing game) but we had a blast!

Go to some high school football games.

We went to the homecoming game for the high school I work at and also chaperoned the dance afterwards! It was fun, and we always love going to games!

Go one at least one outdoor adventure to soak up the amazing weather.

Our day at Sweet Berry Farms was so much fun! The weather wasn’t quite what I had in mind when we wrote the list, but it was a great time nonetheless. We fed goats (Jackson was obsessed), rode a train, picked wildflowers…it was great!

Burn fall-scented candles.

I have never allowed candles in my house before. When I was a small child our home was struck by lightning and burned to the ground. As a result, I was petrified of thunderstorms as a child (I’ve gotten over that one) and am terrified of fire to this day. I love having a fire in the fireplace (because I know it’s totally contained) but can’t handle being the one to light it, and have always shied away from fire in any other form. But I decided this was the year I started lighting candles and it was lovely! I don’t think I’ll do open candles like these again, because it made me too nervous, but the candles in a glass container were awesome!

Go through a corn maze.

We did this on our big farm day and it was so fun! It was still early in the season so the corn wasn’t very tall, but it was great for Jackson. He thought it was a blast, and even though he doesn’t fully “get” the idea of a maze, it was definitely something we’ll do again!

Get some fall-themed books from the library for Jackson.

This weekend was rainy and cold so it was a perfect time to curl up with some books! Jack and I ran to the library after his nap on Sunday afternoon to pick some out and we’ll be reading them all week! I really want to get back in the habit of going to the library more often – we did all the time in the summer but we haven’t kept up with it.

I think we’re doing pretty good on our list so far! We still have over a month left and have concrete plans to cross off at least 5 more items in the next few weeks!
