How to Read a Tape Measure

Find the closest inch mark to whatever you’re measuring, then use the tic marks to find out what fraction of an inch is included. For example, in the image above, the most accurate measurement would be 47 1/4″.

Quick Tip! 

The case on your tape measure will have a number on it – this is the exact measurement of the case itself. It's great for measuring inside corners - just add the case size to the measurement you see!

What do all the lines mean?

1/16″ lines 1/8″ lines 1/4″ lines 1/2″ lines 1″ lines 1 foot 16-inch increments (typically red)
