How to Install  Vertical Shiplap

Looking for a fun twist on a classic wall treatment? Try hanging your shiplap vertically instead of horizontally.  Here are some tips on how to do it.

Vertical shiplap looks best with no seams! Measure your ceiling height and cut boards to fit perfectly for a modern look.

Use full boards

For a great fit without glue,  install your nails so that they create an X behind the boards - angling one upwards and one downwards.

2

2

angle the nails

Put most of your nails in the lip. You'll need a few on the other side to hold the board down, but this makes finishing work easier.

3

3

nail the lip

Measure the length of your wall before installation and try to avoid ending with a tiny sliver of board.

measure first!

Use wood filler on the nail holes and caulk along all of the seams at the top and bottom for a polished look.
