How to Store an In-Progress Puzzle
Love doing jigsaw puzzles but don’t know how to store an in-progress puzzle when you need to put it away? This post is exactly what you’re looking for!

Every year around this time I tend to write a post about puzzles. It’s become a bit of a thing, and it’s not surprising because this is the perfect time to be doing copious amounts of puzzling. It gets dark early, it’s cold outside…what else would you be doing?!
Previously, we’ve talked about how to frame a puzzle, followed by a roundup of the best puzzles for framing. Today, we’re talking about how to store an in-progress puzzle. Because sometimes those 1,000 piece puzzles take a while and it can be hard to leave everything all spread out for days on end!
How to Store An In-Progress Puzzle
There are a few different ways to store puzzles that you haven’t finished yet, but my favorite is with a puzzle board! I finally got one recently after drooling over them over years, and it was worth every penny.
How does it work? It’s simple! A puzzle board a large wooden square that you assemble your puzzle on. They come in various sizes, but mine is big enough for a 1,000-piece puzzle. Some are simple and some are a little fancier – this one comes with drawers to help sort your puzzle pieces. It also has a turntable on the bottom that allows you to rotate the puzzle as you work.
Here is the puzzle storage board that I have.
So far, I’m really pleased with it! It can be tucked under the couch or under your bed when it’s not in use, and it has a little plastic cover that slips right on top so the pieces don’t go flying. This has been so helpful for me, as I love having a puzzle going pretty much all the time in the winter, but I quickly get annoyed with how they’re taking over the entire dining room table. This puzzle storage option lets me keep a puzzle going without constantly using the table. Plus, I love how the little drawers let me sort and store my puzzle pieces while I’m working!
Other Puzzle Storage Options
Looking for something a little different? I rounded up some other options for you! I used to have one of the puzzle mats that you can roll up when you’re not using them, and I found it a bit unwieldy to use. However, I have friends who love theirs, so your mileage may vary.
