How to Get the Nancy Meyers Aesthetic In Your Home
The Nancy Meyers aesthetic is a classic, beautiful style that just about everyone wants to re-create in their home. Today, I’m sharing my best tips for how to make it happen!
When you think of the interiors in a Nancy Meyers movie, what do you think of? For me, the immediate feeling the homes in her movies evoke is comfort. They all absolutely exude style and are impeccably decorated, but they’re not too fussy. They look like someone actually lives there. There is clutter on the counters and books stacked up on the nightstand and the couch looks so cozy and welcoming that you want to curl right up with a cup of coffee.
The Nancy Meyers aesthetic is so popular because it feels attainable and realistic, while still being absolutely jaw-droppingly gorgeous. I mean, who among us hasn’t dreamed of moving directly into the Napa house from The Parent Trap? Or wanted to copy and paste the It’s Complicated kitchen directly into their own home? We’ve all had fantasies about the interiors of The Holiday, right?!?!?!!

As I’ve been dreaming of a new home for our family, I’ve been thinking a lot about the vibes I want to evoke, and I keep circling back to the feeling of a Nancy Meyers movie. And, since we aren’t moving quite yet, I’ve just been doing a lot of studying and planning and starting to think about how I can capture this feeling in our (still theoretical) future home.
How to Capture The Nancy Meyers Aesthetic In Your Home
1. Prioritize Comfort. Always.
You never look at a Nancy Meyers set and think, “that looks stuffy”. You think, “holy crap I want to take a nap in that room.” So, if you want the Nancy Meyers aesthetic you should always place comfort and coziness at the forefront!
2. Tons of layering with warm neutrals and natural materials.
Nancy Meyers interiors always lean into natural textures, neutral colors, and simple patterns like stripes and gingham. Don’t be afraid to layer them in and go a little wild. Think slipcovered sofas, flowing curtains, upholstered ottomans, and tons of throw pillows.
3. Create a lived-in kitchen.
The kitchen is the heart of any home, and if you’ve ever watched a Nancy Meyers movie you’ll know that hers are pretty much all pure perfection. But, in a very casual and undone way! You’ll almost always find hanging copper pots, cookbooks lined up, bowls of fruit on the counter, and a few (absolutely beautiful) everyday tools always on display. Minimalism is not the name of the game here.
4. Don’t leave a window undressed.
Pretty much every window in a Nancy Meyers movie has beautiful woven shades, breezy patterned curtains, or both. She’d never dream of leaving a window without some sort of covering. Bamboo shades, roman shades, curtains, wood blinds…any of them will do. And don’t be afraid to mix and match a bit throughout the house – you aren’t looking for uniformity here.

5. Lean into quirk and imperfection!
One of my favorite things about the Nancy Meyers aesthetic is that it has so much personality. But, it’s not over-the-top – it’s subtle! Think family photos in mismatched frames, unique bookends, or boldly patterned lamps. This style is personal and it should be about the things you love.
6. Lean a little coastal without getting beachy.
A hallmark of the Nancy Meyers style is that it often feels very coastal grandma chic without being beachy or cheesy at all. Layer in some rattan, breezy fabrics, and maybe some coastal-feeling art to achieve the look, even if you’re landlocked.
7. Add all the warm and cozy lighting. All of it.
Nancy would never dream of relying solely on harsh overhead lighting, y’all. It’s all about the lamps. Table lamps and floor lamps and sconces and candles. Add dimmers to the overhead lights, and make sure all of your bulbs are nice and warm. Next thing you know, you’ll find yourself dancing around the kitchen to This Will Be with a glass of wine and fresh cookies in the oven.
