How to Organize a Makeup Drawer
There’s not much more annoying than a big ol’ mess of makeup in your vanity drawer. I recently organized my makeup drawer with just a few simple tools and today I’m showing you how I did it.

I’m not a huge makeup person, but I do use at least a little bit most days. And, well, since we moved into this house my makeup drawer has been in absolute shambles. I dumped everything into the drawer the day we moved in and never looked back.
I finally decided it was time to do something about it, and I cannot believe I didn’t do it sooner. Consider this post your little push to tackle that little organizing project that is making you nuts. Let me show you how I whipped my makeup drawer into shape in just a few minutes.
What I Used to Organize My Makeup Drawer
That’s it! I’ll link a few other tools and supplies you might like below, including some makeup bags, organizers for the medicine cabinet, and more. Buet first, let’s chat about how I got my cosmetics organized.

Always Add a Drawer Liner!
I think the first step to any drawer organizing project should be drawer liner. Not only is it pretty, but it makes the drawer so much easier to clean. Our bathroom cabinets are original to the (1978) home, so they’re olllld and not in the best shape. So, adding some drawer liner really made a huge difference.
It’s really easy to add drawer liner – just cut to the appropriate length (add a few inches so you have wiggle room), then peel off the backing and slowly place it, smoothing out from the center. You may need to adjust a couple of times but if you work slowly and steadily you should be good!
My Favorite Makeup Drawer Organization
I love to use single plastic compartments like this to organize just about everything, but it works particularly well for makeup! You can use the longer ones for things like eyeliners, mascara, and makeup brushes. The smaller ones are great for blush or lip gloss, and you could even use the tiny square ones for hair accessories!
I just played around with the placement until I found something that maximized my storage space, and then I started filling in aaaaall of the beauty products. I keep my hair products in the cabinet beneath this drawer in these two-tier organizers, but these little boxes would work great for those too if you prefer to use a drawer.

While you’re organizing the makeup drawer, it’s a great idea to check your makeup expiration dates. Anything you’ve had for a really long time should get tossed, especially if you aren’t using it.
Basically, I just organized all of my makeup into categories, then tossed them into the little bins. And about 10 minutes later, I had a perfectly organized makeup drawer!
