How I Use Pedestals in My Home
Do you have a wood pedestal in your home? I’ve become quite addicted to this little home decor essential. And, I’ve found so many different ways to use them around the house. I can’t stop myself from adding new ones to my collection every time I see them, and I’m always moving them all over the house.
If you don’t have one yet or if you’ve been on the fence for a while, I’m going to do my best to convince you of the magic of a cute little pedestal. I promise, once you buy one you’re going to want to buy 5 more. Because they can be used anywhere.
5 Ways to Style a Wood Pedestal
To add some height.
Small wood pedestals are a great way to add a little bit of height and dimension to any display in your home. Things can get a little boring if everything is at the same height. But, if you just toss a little pedestal in there it’s suddenly a lot more visually compelling!
I’ve used pedestals to raise up candles, plants, small vases, and more around the house. It’s a great way to ground a small piece of decor and make it stand out a bit.
To show off a plant.
I mean, you knew I was going to talk about plants, right?! I use pedestals all over my house to corral plants and show them off a bit. It’s a really great strategy if you’re like me and have a lot of plants gathered in one spot. They can start to look like one big mass of leaves if there’s all sitting next to each other. But, with a little height, you can show off some smaller favorites.
A tray is also a really great way to gather a few plants in one spot to make it easy to move them if necessary. I’ve got several trays around the house and every last one of them has at least one plant on it. I’m sure you’re shocked.
To corral some chaos.
I love using a pedestal in my bathroom to hold up a few bathroom essentials (ahem, and a plant) that might look chaotic if they were just left on the counter. When placed on a cute little pedestal, suddenly a candle, matches, and some lotion look really great.
Anytime you find you have a spot on your counters or a table that feels a little cluttered, try grabbing a little pedestal to rally them together. You’ll be surprised at how big of a difference it makes!
To display the soap
I’ve got a small wood pedestal in my kitchen that I use to hold our hand soap and a small candle. It’s a really great way to make a boring display look a little cuter, and it would work in any spot where you need soap! They’d be cute in the bathroom, the laundry room, or the kitchen!
I also love the idea of using one on your nightstand to hold some hand lotion – add a cute candle and it’s a great way to elevate some boring nightstand basics.
just because you can.
Now listen, I’ve given you a few genuinely functional ideas for how to use a wood pedestal around the house but the bottom line is, you don’t need an excuse to use one. If there’s anything I’ve learned over my years of trial and error with decorating my home, it’s that taking the time to be intentional with the small stuff in your home is worth it.
Use a pedestal to hold your keys, corral your glasses, display a favorite trinket, or just leave it empty until you find a use for it! Once you start thinking about unique ways to add a little beauty to your home, you’ll find a million different uses for them. Promise.
ready to try it out?!
Several of the pedestals in my house are ones I’ve made myself! You can see a tutorial for the large pedestal on our mantel right here, and one for the smaller one by my kitchen sink right here.
If you’d rather just buy one, here are a few favorite options to get you started. They’re all under $25 (most of them are under $20) and they’d all make a great addition to any shelf or table in your house. I’ve already got number 6, and I think I definitely need to add numbers 4, 7, and 12 to my collection!
