May Recap + Favorites
Summer is here! I don’t know about you, but May was absolutely wild around here. I often feel like the months go by quickly but this was truly one for the books. I feel like it was a complete blur and I can barely even tell you what happened.
The end of the school year is always so exciting and so bittersweet. This year Grant was not ready to be done with school. He ran out of the building absolutely sobbing and leapt into Corey’s arms. He cried most of the way home because he was so sad to be leaving his sweet teacher and all the friends he made. Jackson wrapped up elementary school this year and he’s so excited for middle school but also feeling really anxious (and, to be honest, me too!).
I’m really looking forward to a slow and quiet summer at home with these wild people, and I can’t wait to see what kind of adventures the next couple of months bring out way.
A Few Highlights From May
- I know I mentioned it already, but Jackson finished elementary school and I can barely process it. We’re all feeling a lot of mixed feelings but the primary one is excitement for all that’s to come.
- We started visiting the neighborhood pool this month and it got me so excited for long days swimming and wearing the kids out. The best pool bag ever made her reappearance and I have a feeling we’ll be BFFs until August.
- We visited Disneyland! We planned this trip nearly a year ago and we’ve been so excited about it. We jetted off the Monday after school got out and spent the week exploring the California counterpart to our favorite place on earth. It was so fun to see the OG Disney park, and we loved every minute of our trip.
- I built a puzzle library for my best friend’s house, and it was so fun to get my hands dirty in the workshop again! I worked on it with my dad and we had a great time – the final reveal is coming this week!
- We wrapped up Grant’s first ever season of t-ball, and it was a blast. He’s trying coach pitch baseball in the fall, so I guess we’re officially a baseball family?!
May Favorite Things
- I love Grady Hendrix and I’ve had this book on my shelf for a while waiting for me. I finally decided to pick it up, and it did not disappoint. His books all have a very 80’s horror movie vibe (in the best possible way), and I loved this one so much. My favorite book of his will always be The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires, but this one easily takes second place!
- I’ve been desperately in need of a new suitcase for over a year now after my old one broke but I’ve been ignoring it because buying luggage feels so hard. I finally forced myself to do it right before we left for our Disneyland trip and I was so glad I did. This suitcase was fabulous and the wheels all worked! What a revelation!
- I’ve been wanting to add some not-too-short cropped tees to my closet, so I ordered a ton to try on. This one was the clear winner. I kept it in two colors and have found myself reaching for it constantly all month.
- We love eating outside on our freshly-finished patio, but summer brings hoards of flies to our yard. These fly fans help so much and allow us to actually enjoy a meal outside.
- Two of our bathrooms needed a new trash can and I went with this hands-free one. It opens with a wave of your hand, and it’s so pretty! It’s perfect for a bathroom that little kids use (easy to clean!), and I would happily put it in every bathroom in my house.
- I saw someone using this gorgeous blue and white bowl on Instagram this month and I immediately clicked their link to order it. It feels like a super special vintage heirloom piece and I’ve used it so much already.
- No matter how many bathing suits I have in my closet I always find myself ordering just one more each summer. This was my purchase for the month and I love it. It fits great (not too cheeky!), it’s comfortable, it’s not see-through, and it’s a little sexy while still keeping my feeling nice and covered up. It was perfect for chasing kids around our hotel at Disneyland!
- I’m always (always!) looking for new cleaning tools, and this steam cleaner is my newest toy. I used it to clean the grout on my bathroom floor and my mind was absolutely blown at how much of a difference it made.
- I feel like a bit of a broken record about this walking pad, but I feel like it’s truly become essential to my mental health. I packed it up in the garage for showings and open houses back in March and I missed it so much. I pulled it back out this month a few times and it was truly surprising (and also not at all surprising) how much calmer and grounded I felt on the days I used it to walk while I was working.
- Jackson asked for a bracelet kit so I ordered him these little rubber bands. He doesn’t even have the loom kit, he just looked up a tutorial and used his fingers to make dozens of bracelets. It’s been fun to see how much fun he’s having with it, and I think it would make a great summer activity!
- I listened to this book on audiobook and it was so much better than I even expected. I thought I had it all figured out about a dozen times and it still managed to leave me with my jaw dropped by the end. It was so so good.
- And finally, I can’t get enough athletic shorts in the spring and summer and these are my new obsession. They’re comfortable and flattering, and I love the color. I’ve wore them at least weekly (if not more) all month long.
Alright summer, let’s do this!
