Quick Summer Home Maintenance With DAP On The Go
I’ve got a new secret weapon in my home maintenance arsenal – DAP on the go sized products! They’re the perfect size for completing small touch ups around the house, and I’ve been busting them out a ton lately. Here’s a look at how I’m using them.
For the last few months, we’ve been trying to sell our house. It’s been a longer-than-expected process thanks to a really slow real estate market, but it’s given me lots of time to slowly start un-decorating our house and preparing for the eventual move.
As we head into summer, things are slowly starting to pick up (woohoo!). And, of course, that has me putting some more thought into what I can do now to make things easier when we actually are prepping to move.
This post is sponsored by DAP. But, as usual, all opinions and enthusiasm are entirely my own.
DAP On the Go
Enter my new obsession, DAP’s line of on-the-go caulks, adhesives, and patch & repair products! We’ve all been there – you have one nail hole to fill or one small section of caulk that really needs to be replaced in your home. You know that if you open up that fresh (giant) tube of caulk or nail hole filler you likely won’t need it again for months. And, it could quite possibly go bad. But, what else are going you going do? So you cringe as you open it up and use a tiny fraction of what’s in the container, then seal it back up and hope for the best.
Well, no more my friends. DAP now has “on the go” sized containers for many of their most popular products. That means you don’t have to stress about wasting half your container of caulk after you seal up the one windowsill that needed fixing!
I knew these on-the-go products would be absolutely perfect for me as I completed some general maintenance around the house while I was prepping for a recent wave of house showings. Here’s how I used them:
3 Ways I’m Using DAP’s On-the-Go Sized Products
I’m Touching Up Caulk
Our house is not even 6 years old yet and it’s really well maintained. That means there aren’t a ton of spaces that really need the caulk replaced quite yet. But, that doesn’t mean there aren’t any spaces!
The caulk around the toilet in our powder room was looking pretty rough. Plus, we had a few small areas around sinks or in windows that needed some help. So, instead of having to break out the huge caulk applicator, I just grabbed my on-the-go sized tubes of DAP Kwik Seal Kitchen & Bath Caulk and DAP Ultra Clear All-Purpose Sealant. They’re mini-versions of my favorite caulks to use around the house. The tiny 2.8 oz tubes are the perfect size for completing little touch-ups without wasting any product.
I’m Filling Nail Holes
You don’t realize how many nail holes you can end up with after 6 years in a house but, let me tell you, it’s a lot. Especially if you’re like me and a little, um, overzealous when it comes to nailing holes in the wall.
DAP DryDex Dry Time Indicator Spackling is already one of my go-to products when I need to do some small nail hole patching. But, I always worry I won’t put the lid back on the container properly and it’ll dry out before I get back to it. Why do I worry about it, you ask? Because I’ve done it too many times to count. Whoops! But with this smaller tube I don’t have to worry about accidentally letting it dry out! And it’s so easy to carry around the house and use as needed.
I’m Checking Past Projects
And finally, as the real estate market starts to pick up for summer and we (hopefully) start getting more people in the door, I’ve been going back and giving all of my old trim projects and built-ins a quick once-over. I want to make sure things are still looking nice!
One of the biggest draws of our house over the competition is that it’s got lots of custom details. But, if there are gaps in the caulk or chips in the paint all over the place, it’s not actually a huge perk, right?! So, I’ve been checking all of my wall trim and any project where I used caulk to make sure that there aren’t any small areas I missed the first time around. Or, you know, places where the general chaos of life with kids and pets has caused some of the caulk or paint to chip.
I found a few areas with gaps in the caulk in various trim projects throughout the house, as I thought I might. It only took a couple of minutes to touch them up with the 2.8 oz tube of either DAP Alex Plus All-Purpose Caulk or DAP Extreme Flex Caulk! They’re already the caulk I use for pretty much all of the trim projects I do around the house. So, it was nice to have a smaller version to help me do some quick clean up!
Final Thoughts
If you’ve been around here for any length of time, you’ll know I’m a huge fan of DAP products already. They’ve been my number one when it comes to all things caulk, sealers, patching, and adhesives for years. So, it should come as no surprise that I’m really pumped about this new line of on the go sized products.
I love a good DIY project, but I’m not always completing huge jobs or tackling a ton at once. Sometimes I’m just a regular homeowner who needs to do a tiny bit of maintenance! I think this is a genius way to make that sort of project easier. I’m so glad my friends at DAP thought of it!
