Our Christmas Front Porch Decor This Year
We’re celebrating our first Christmas in the new house! It’s been a ton of fun to set up the front porch for Christmas – here’s a peek at how it turned out. Plus, I’m sharing some of my favorite Christmas front porch decor!

I loved decorating our old front porch for Christmas. Once we added the DIY concrete front porch steps, it became one of my favorite spots to decorate! I wasn’t sure if I would have as much fun in our new house because the entrance is a little less grand but, oh boy, I still managed to have fun with it.
I’ve never considered myself super skilled when it comes to outdoor decorations, but over the years I’ve figured out a few simple tricks that make it really easy!
Christmas Porch Decor Tips & Tricks
Choose a Vibe
Do you love inflatables with all your favorite Christmas characters? Or, do you prefer a really classic Christmas with lights only? I think for years, we really struggled to have a Christmas decor identity outside, and it made things feel sloppy. Now, I know that I like things to feel really classic and nostalgic with as many lights as I can convince my husband to put up. No inflatables for me.
Go Big on the Wreath
The wreath is the focal point of your door, so don’t skimp on it! We splurged on a really nice wreath a few years back and it’s been one of the best decisions we made. It’s huge and lush and looks fantastic year after year. I added some bells and a bow and it’s such a classic look that brings a ton of joy.

My recommendation is to get the biggest wreath you can fit on your door for a big impact. If you stick to one that’s plain and add your own adornments, it’ll grow with you as your style changes!
Use Repetition
My favorite way to decorate outside without having to think too hard is to lean into repetition. I’ve gathered a whole bunch of these mini Christmas trees over the years and I have several planters that all work together. I just plop the trees in and it looks really intentional and beautiful!
This can also be done with matching floral arrangements, lanterns, or any other decor. A set of two or three will always make a bigger impact than just one.

Play With Height
This is a good rule of thumb for any decor arrangement. Having some height variation keeps things interesting and keeps your eye moving! When you’re grabbing things like planters or other decor, aim for several different heights instead of keeping it all on one level.
Lights, Lights, Lights!
And, of course, you can’t have too many lights for a Christmas front porch. We love adding our DIY Christmas arches and I was thrilled to discover they work great at this new house. Personally, I’m always looking for new ways to add lights to our Christmas display outside and I’d be happy if my house ended up looking like the Griswold’s.

This year, I also got to play around a bit with the side of our house, because we have two more exterior doors over there! I kept it really simple with some wreaths on the doors and some mini trees on either sid.e
The bottom line is – don’t overthink it! Just a few small Christmas touches go a long way, and it’s always worth the effort.
Over the next few years I definitely plan to add more to our Christmas front porch. I want lights down the driveway and some bigger, more impactful decorations. But, this feels like a really great start for our first year in the new house!
