The Best Faux Plants for the Backyard
I think it’s safe to say we all know I really looooveeee plants. I’ve written dozens of posts about them over the years. There’s so much satisfaction in keeping a plant alive, watching it grow, and enjoying the beautiful view of a shelf or yard full of plants. But, something else I’ve learned about myself is that I cannot keep outdoor plants alive to save my life. If they are in a place where they’ll get automatically watered by my sprinklers, I have a chance. Otherwise? It’s hopeless and I might as well give up immediately. Which is why I’ve become a little bit obsessed lately with faux plants for the backyard.
I mean, they look pretty good, right?!
This isn’t necessarily new. I’ve been talking about using faux plants outside for a while, and even wrote a post all about my favorite front porch plants last year. So, if you need some more inspiration after reading this post, head over there!
Today, I’m talking about some of the faux plants I’ve added to our backyard lately, along with a few I’m eyeing. I love having a lush, green-filled yard and it’s clear the only way I’m gonna get it is if none of them need to be watered. I’ve come to accept it.
My Favorite Faux Plants for the Backyard
Let’s start with our hanging planters on the patio. The last two years in a row, I’ve strongly considered just getting rid of them. I always buy new plants for them in the spring, keep them alive until about mid-June, and then deal with dead plants until the next spring. It’s a cycle I was ready to break.
Finally, I decided that instead of ditching the planters, I’d try ditching the plants! I ordered a bunch of faux hanging plants to try out and, well, it worked. I even had someone over recently who complimented me on my beautiful outdoor plants! Shh…don’t tell her.

Now that the hanging planters are squared away, next on my agenda is getting a few larger faux plants. Last year I had a couple of beautiful, big plants out here and they made me SO HAPPY. But, of course, they didn’t survive. So, I’ve been doing some browsing and I’m determined to add a few that will create the same vibe without all of the work.
