10 Super Easy Halloween Decorations
Looking for some really easy Halloween decorations for your home? I’ve got you covered! These are great for last-minute decorating, or if you aren’t looking to spend a lot of time making your house feel spooky.
We moved into a new house less than two months ago, and decorating for Halloween was low on my priority list this year. It’s hard to get excited for seasonal decorations when your house is still covered in boxes!
But, the kids love our Halloween decor and so I knew I had to do something. I only pulled out about half of what I normally use for Halloween, but it was just enough to leave a nice spooky impression and bring the kids a little joy.
Here are 10 quick ideas if you’re looking to do the same.
10 Simple Halloween Decoration Ideas

1. Use a Big Skeleton
I bought two of these 5′ tall skeletons a couple of years ago and we’ve had the most fun with them every season! One of them always lives out on our front porch to greet guests, and the other one tends to get moved around the house. Like, a lot. The kids are constantly playing with it and I never know where I’ll find it. It’s really fun to walk into your office for some quiet time at 5:00 in the morning and find a skeleton sitting on the sofa!
The kids have named our skeleton (Big Frankie) and he becomes a part of every game they play. I put him at the dining room table and my youngest now insists on eating dinner in his lap every night. Basically, what I’m saying is you need a big skeleton. It’s a blast and makes quite an impact when it comes to spooky decor.

2. Hang Some Witch Hats
I’ve done this for years and it’s always one of my favorite low-effort high-impact Halloween decorations. I bought a pack of these cheap witch hats and some fishing line and just use thumbtacks to hang ’em from the ceiling!
You have to be thoughtful about where you do this and consider ceiling height! In our last house, we had 9′ ceilings and it worked really nicely to hang them above the dining room table. Much of our house here has 8′ ceilings, though, and it makes hanging anything a little trickier. I decided to try them out in this hallway that leads to our movie room and it was the perfect spot! I had to cut the fishing line shorter (and I ditched it entirely for some hats), but I think it looks pretty cute.

3. Decorate the Mantel
If you want to do just one thing to make an impact in your home for Halloween or any holiday, this is it! If you have a fireplace, the mantel is likely the center of your living space. Spending 10 minutes decorating it can go further than decorating most other spots in your house. Plus, it’s such a fun space to decorate!
This year I kept things really simple, simce I’m still learning how to decorate for this living room. A cute little garland, some haunted books, and a couple of other small things got mixed in with my regular fall decor. It’s nothing fancy, but it’s just Halloween-y enough to make us smile!

4. Decorate with LEGO
Speaking of things that make us smile…a couple of years ago we started decorating with some seasonal LEGO sets. Oh boy, it is SO fun! We started with the Hocus Pocus LEGO set for Halloween and we’ve added the Haunted Mansion set, the Nightmare Before Christmas set, and a few others. Oh, and of course we bust out the Home Alone set when Christmas rolls around.
If you have kids who are into LEGO this is a really easy (and fun) way to make their interests a part of your holiday decor. If you don’t have any themed sets, you could even have your kids create something and use it to decorate in their rooms! I think this can be a great reminder that holiday decorating shouldn’t be taken too seriously. Have a little fun with it!

5. Hang Floating Candles
I got these floating candles for a Harry Potter birthday party a few years back, and I held onto them because I knew they’d be good for decor down the road. They are so cute in our breakfast nook and the boys love when I turn them on for a little spooky glow!
This is a super simple project – just use fishing wire and thumbtacks. And you don’t even have to put batteries in them if you don’t plan to turn them on. We only do it occasionally because it’s a bit of a pain, but it really does feel super special when we do.

6. Set a Spooky Table
One really fun way to add a little bit of joy to your home this Halloween is by decorating the table for the season and leaving it up all month long! I grabbed a super cheap Halloween tablecloth and spread it out over our table and we’ve been eating on it every night. I also always love to grab a pack or two of seasonal disposable plates and pull them out on occasion.
Sometimes it’s easy to fall in the habit of only setting the table or doing anything “special” when we have guests, but it can be really fun to make thing look all festive on a random Tuesday night!

7. Change Out Your Art
We don’t have a lot of art on the walls in this house yet, but this is one of my favorite ways to add some seasonal decor! If you have framed art in your house it’s so affordable and easy to just change it out for something spooky. And, of course, if you have a smart TV that displays art, adding some Halloween art to the television goes a long way, too!
Don’t want to change out your art but still want to add a seasonal touch? Try adding some mini fake spiders climbing over your frames – just tape them right onto the glass!

8. Hang Some Spiderwebs
I didn’t buy any fake spiderwebs this year, but in years past this has definitely been one of my favorite super easy ways to add some Halloween vibes with almost zero effort. I just toss it at the end of the season (it’s not easy to reuse), and it’s really cheap to replace the next year.
My favorite way to hang this stuff is to stretch it out between a couple of shelves on a wall or a bookcase. It looks best when it is stretched really thin!

9. Make Some Subtle Swaps
A few little pumpkins go a long way, my friend. I have some mini skeletons that I tucked into various vignettes and corners. We added several pumpkins to our china cabinet. We changed out our stems for fall colors and vibes.
Basically, even if you don’t do anything else you can make your home feel spooky and seasonal just by adding a couple of little Halloween pieces in places where you’ve already got decor! It doesn’t take much time or effort and it’s a perfect way to dip your toes into the seasonal decorating waters.

10. Use Seasonal Throw Pillows + Blankets
And finally, another really easy way to add a little seasonal decor to your home is with throw pillows and blankets! We have a couple of Halloween blankets that we add to our blanket basket when October rolls around and it’s always so fun to use them while we’re snuggled up to watch movies. And, I love using a themed throw pillow on the couch!
The bottom line here is you should be having fun with your seasonal decor – ESPECIALLY at Halloween! This is a season full of silliness and spookiness and joy, and if you get caught up in making your home look fancy or super put-together, it stops being fun. Embrace the whimsy!
