August Recap + Favorites
Friends, we have officially arrived. The BER months are here! Combine that with the fact that we’ve officially be in our new house for a week as of tomorrow and things are feeling really great in my neck of the woods. We’ve spent the last week settling and unpacking and it’s really starting to feel like home. I’m really excited for the day off today because we’re all exhausted and it’s the perfect time to recover a bit – and, you know, unpack a few more boxes.

A Few Highlights from August…
- After 9 months of preparing for and thinking about this move, it feels like a giant weight has been lifted from my shoulders now that we’re here. We’re overwhelmed with to-dos and projects in the best possible way, and I’m just so dang excited to dive in.
- Speaking of the move, if you missed it you can see our new house here!
- I also compiled aaaaall the before and afters from our last house in one place, if you want a recap!
- Jackson started middle school and it’s been so great for him! I was a tad nervous, since everyone talks about how horrible middle school is (and I was homeschooled so I never experienced it!). But, I can already tell it’s going to be a time that really challenges him and helps him grow in great ways. He’s doing band and theater and having a blast, and I’m just having so much fun watching him thrive.
- We wrapped up summer with pool visits and theater camp and family game nights and it was all delightful. We’re all very happy to be back in the routine of school, though!
August Favorite Things

- I have had Beyond the Wand on my reading list for a long time and I finally got to listen to the audiobook! Tom Felton reads it himself and it was so delightful. I loved learning more about him and his life (I had no idea about so much of it) and I’m telling everyone I know to listen.
- I ordered this shoe rack on a whim on day two in our house when I couldn’t stand the pile of shoes in my closet anymore. It ended up being big enough for all of my shoe and all of Corey’s shoes, which is such a win. It won’t be a forever solution but it’s perfect for now!
- Jackson was really wanting a new setup for his room so we grabbed him this full-sized daybed and it’s perfect. It has the feel of a sofa, which makes his whole room feel so cozy and welcoming!
- One of you suggested I grab the cutest fidget toy for Grant while we’re sitting in the car waiting to get Jackson after school and it’s been such a hit! It is so cheap and both kids love playing with it.
- I stumbled on the best-smelling Clorox wipes this month and I will never not have them in my house again. I’m truly obsessed.
- I’ve been wanting to upgrade to glass food storage containers for a long time now, and the move seemed like a perfect time. I got rid of all of my mismatched old ones and grabbed this set and it feels so fancy! For now one set is perfect but I may need to grab a few more of the larger sizes – we’ll see how it goes.
- The hanging rod in Grant’s closet is really high so I got him this adjustable closet hanging rod – I used it in an old house to double my hanging space and it worked so well for me! So far it’s the perfect solution.
- I’m always looking for affordable shoes that don’t hurt my plantar-fasciitis-prone feet and I’m loving these walking shoes. They’re really comfortable and my feet don’t hurt in them after walking around all day!
- Jackson really wanted to do an escape room as a family this summer but they’re so expensive. I got this at-home escape room game instead and we had a ton of fun playing it together!
- As we head into the fall and winter months I wanted a non-powder alternative to my favorite everyday makeup so I decided to try tinted moisturizer and I love it! It’ll be perfect for the drier months and I love the lighter coverage for the days when I’m just hanging at home or running errands.
- Almost everyone who helped us move asked me about these giant moving bags – they’re so handy. They can hold a ton of stuff, they’re really durable, and I think I’ll be using them a lot.
- I’m always looking for comfortable pants that feel like pajamas and these baggy jeans fit the bill perfectly. I need to cut the legs a bit (I have short legs!), but they look so cute on and I love the drawstring waist.
