All of the Before + Afters In Our Third Home
One week from today, we’ll be settling into our fourth house. It’s a little hard to wrap my mind around the fact that we’re quickly approaching the last days in our current home, and I’m feeling all sorts of sentimental.
We’ve lived in this house for nearly six years now, and in that time we have made a lot of changes. Our home is practically unrecognizable! So, of course, I can’t let the moment pass without taking a minute to look back at all of the progress we’ve made over the years. Let’s jump right into it – I tried to grab links for all of the projects we did to this house. I didn’t include things like furniture makeovers or projects that didn’t stick around, just the things that changed the actual house!
The Entry

This is one of the spaces I started making changes to really early on, but it took a long time to it to get to this final look. I added the tall beadboard paneling in the entry way back in March of 2020 (yup, that March of 2020), but there were all sorts of little tweaks that happened over the years!
Entry Projects
- Wallpaper (Round 1) + Furniture
- Installing Beadboard
- Entry Closet Makeover
- Painting the Baseboards
- Painting the Front Door
- Wallpaper Round 2
- Installing Brass Light Switches
- Staircase Gallery Wall
- DIY Peg Rail with Hooks
The Living Room

For a moment, I was going to say that our living room hadn’t seen much change other than furniture. But then, I remembered that I installed an entire fireplace! I nearly forgot because it feels like it has always been a part of the house.
In addition to the fireplace, we’ve got some really gorgeous floating shelves that really feel like they belong and an art ledge I’ll miss dearly. I’m really excited to have a new space to design (because isn’t that always so much fun?!), but this is definitely the coziest living room we’ve ever hard.

- Our DIY Electric Fireplace
- Installing Open Shelving
- DIY Art Ledge
- Installing Battery-Operated Sconces
The Dining Room

The dining room in our house is more of a pass-through than anything else. The only reason it feels like a dedicated space is because of how we’ve set it up, really! It has worked really nicely for us, but I have to say I’m so excited for a real dining room in our next home. It was one of my absolute must-haves, and I can’t wait to get my hands on a dining room that actually has some walls and feels like its own space.
Of course, I’m really grateful for the space we do have here. It’s generously sized (our dining room table is massive), and it has helped us host so many holidays, Super Bowl parties, family dinners, and more.

The Kitchen

This is a space I feel like we could have done a lot with if we would have wanted to tackle a bigger renovation, but I’m really happy with what we were able to accomplish! I don’t love an all-white kitchen and it’s never what I would have chosen for myself, but I love where we landed. The gold hardware is one of my favorite details in my entire house, and I love the black island. The oversized pendants warm the space up so much, too. I’m honestly really proud of how I took a stark kitchen that I didn’t like all that much and turned it into a space that really makes me smile.
Kitchen Projects
- Adding Shiplap to the Island
- Painting the Kitchen Island
- DIY Pantry Door Organizer
- DIY Cabinet Door Organizer
- Pull-Out Pot + Pan Organizer
The Laundry Room

This is another room I tackled in 2020, but I didn’t do much to it beyond the initial renovation. Of all the rooms in our house, this is easily the top space I wish I could have had time to re-do. It’s beautiful and functions just fine, but I had some regrets with my design choices (open shelving – really, Amanda?!).
Of course, no matter how I felt about the design of this space I’ll always be grateful to this laundry room for being the biggest laundry room I’d had before this house! (Spoiler: the new laundry room is about twice the size of this one).

The Powder Room

I took a long time to tackle this space. It was the last room in my house that remained untouched and I was so nervous to do it! But, I had a blast with this project and I’m really happy with how it turned out. I had originally planned on continuing the art all the way around the room for a really eclectic feel, but I never ended up actually doing it. I would have loved to see how it turned out, but I’m honestly glad I didn’t do it because that would have been so annoying to patch and re-paint!

The Primary Bedroom

Oh, how I love our bedroom. We really prioritized this space from the beginning – we moved to this house in November of 2019, and by January of 2020 it looked largely the same as it does today! I didn’t change a ton in here after we finished the initial projects and I still love it so much.
Having a super dark and moody bedroom makes for such a cozy space, and this room will always have my heart. I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about how I want to do our next bedroom without just copy/pasting this one into it, so we’ll have to see where we end up!
Primary Bedroom Projects
- Installing DIY Picture Frame Molding
- Painting the Ceiling
- Creating an Office Nook
- Custom Closet Makeover
The Primary Bathroom

I’m so proud of this space because I did an incredibly budget-friendly makeover here and I really love how it turned out. I would have loved to really and fully renovate this space (I had ideas!), but it worked so well for us in the time we lived here. I think this space is a great testament to how much of a difference you can make with just a little bit of paint and some good ol’ creativity.
Of course, I can’t ignore that the biggest project we did in here was having the skylight installed. It was easily the most impactful thing we did – there’s no window in here other than that! All that natural light goes such a long way, and it is one thing I can’t imagine not having anymore.
Primary Bathroom Projects
- Skylight Installation
- Painting the Cabinets
- DIY Faux Marble Countertop
- Wallpaper in the Water Closet
- Adding Wall Planters

The Bonus Room

This room took me a lonnnnnnggggg time to finish, and it went through a couple of different phases. But, in the end, it’s one of my favorite spots in our house! I have always wanted to do a full room of shiplap, and this one has brought me so much joy.
The boys have had so much fun displaying all of their favorite LEGO sets in this space, and it’s a really cozy place for them to hang out and play. I can definitely see myself using this same paint color again in our future home (it’s such a stunner!), and I really had a ton of fun with this room over the years.
The Upstairs Hallway

I almost didn’t include this space because it’s just a small little section of our home, but I put a lot of effort into it. It’s worth a little feature! Really all that I did in this part of the house is install board & batten trim, and then I later re-painted it all because I didn’t love the first color I chose. Board & batten is a favorite of mine and I’m glad I got to use it somewhere in this house!

Jackson’s Room

Jackson’s room saw a few different iterations in the time we lived here. It’s hard to believe that he was only FIVE when we moved into this house! We really let him have some fun with this space and it was a ton of fun to watch his personality emerge through his choices in here.
This room was the first room in our house where I painted the ceiling the same color as the walls, and now all three bedrooms plus the bonus room have the same treatment! So, I guess you could say Jackson is a bit of a trendsetter.

Grant’s Room

This might be the hardest room for me to leave – I love Grant’s room SO MUCH! This is the second version of his room (the first was a nursery), and it’s a space that I’m just so proud of. Of course, the timing of leaving this space is probably really great for Grant. He’s not into dinosaurs so much anymore and has been asking about making some changes in here. He’s really excited about getting to make some of his own decisions for his new room, and I can’t wait to see what he ends up asking for!

The Boys’ Bathroom

And, of course, our final space upstairs is the boys’ bathroom. This room had a bit of an identity crisis and it took me a few tries to get it right. But, I really love where we landed with it. It’s a perfect little bathroom for the boys to share, and it’s another space where we added as skylight! It made a huge difference (again, no other windows!), and helped make this a really fun space to design.

The Garage

I almost left the garage out of this post but I promised all of the before and afters. And, this space has seen a LOT of change since we moved in! It has really served me well and I’ve spent so much time working in this space over the years. I’m really proud of how well-organized I got it and I had a lot of fun designing this space.
I had a hard time finding photos of it (especially before photos), so it was a good note to myself to be better about that this next time around. It might not be the prettiest room in the house but it sure has worked great for us and I’m really going to miss the cabinets!

The Exterior

And finally, let’s talk outside! The front of our house has seen very little change (other than the trees getting bigger!), so I didn’t snap updated photos there. But, the backyard has come a LONG way! We planted four trees, expanded the patio, stained the fence, and really turned our little backyard into a super cozy space. It’s definitely the smallest backyard we’ve ever had, but we really made it work for us.

Whew. When you put it all in one place, I can acknowledge it’s a LOT!
I’m so proud of all the progress we made in this house, and I’m truly so grateful for our time here. I won’t get too sappy on you yet (we’re saving that for next week, haha), but thanks for indulging me in this little walk down memory lane. What a ride it has been!

Hey, you forgot the front yard steps! Those were a major curb appeal and function upgrade.
