Affordable Kitchen Pendant Lights
Looking for affordable pendant lights for your kitchen? I recently swapped ours out and I’m sharing our new lights plus all of the gorgeous, affordable options we considered!

I think one of the most impactful updates you can make to a dated home is swapping out light fixtures. It’s a relatively affordable change that can change the entire vibe of a room! Over the last year that we’ve been in this house, I’ve been slowly changing out light fixtures throughout the house. I still have a ways to go, but the lights that have been bothering me more than anything else are the pendants in our kitchen.
Our kitchen pendants weren’t particularly ugly or offensive, but they were dated and not my style. And, when paired with the not-yet-updated spaces throughout our great room, they felt like a bit of an eyesore. So, I’ve been casually browsing for new pendants for this space for months. I wasn’t sure what I wanted, but I finally landed on a schoolhouse style pendant after my husband mentioned how much he likes the style.
It’s a small change – a couple of new lights in the kitchen certainly isn’t anything revolutionary. But, this is such a great reminder that the little things can truly make such an impact. Not every project needs to be big! Sometimes the little things matter just as much. And, well, this is certainly an example of that.

Now that these lights have been changed out, it’s got me thinking about other small updates I can make in the kitchen. I’ve been thinking about painting the backsplash or adding peel and stick tiles for a long time, and the hardware on the cabinets needs to be changed out. There are lots of little things I can do in here that would make a big difference, and this has me feeling inspired to jump in and try a few things!
If you have some dated or ugly pendants in your house that you’re thinking of changing out, this is your sign to do it!
Affordable Pendant Lights I Considered
I spent a long (long!!) time browsing pendants before I landed on the one I got. I had a strict set of criteria. They needed to feel modern enough to make the house feel a little more updated, but not so modern that they felt out of place. I also needed them to flow with my not-yet-renovated kitchen and flooring, while still playing nicely with the newer fixtures in our house. Oh, and since there are 3 of them I really wanted to keep them pretty cheap!
Here are a bunch of the options I considered – all of them are under $100 per pendant, most are closer to the $50 or $60 range!
Note: Most, if not all, of these come in multiple colors. So, if you like the style of one but prefer a different finish, be sure to click the link because many had several options!

- 8″ Ribbed Glass Pendant (Pack of 2)
- 12″ Domed Gold Pendants (Pack of 2)
- Globe Pendant Lights (Pack of 2)
- Elongated Vintage-Style Milk Glass Pendant
- Ribbed Amber Glass Pendant (Pack of 2)
- 8′ Schoolhouse Pendant
- 10″ Wide Ribbed Glass Pendant
- Black Metal Scalloped Pendant (also comes in white)
I think any one of these would have looked great. But, I’m very happy with our new kitchen pendants, and now I’m eyeing the giant ugly fan in the living room as my next light fixture to change!
