The Best Living Room Floor Lamps
Earlier this week, I shared that we had installed some new wall sconces in our living room and I talked about how I want more ambient lighting in the living room. Well, I’m on a roll because I just added a new floor lamp to the living room and it’s making me so happy. It adds the perfect amount of light to this side of the living room, and it looks gorgeous to boot.
So, today, we’re chatting living room floor lamps! I’m a huge believer in the power of a good lamp, and so I wanted to show you our new lamp and share a few other favorites in case you’re shopping too. Because I promise, if you don’t have a living room floor lamp, you need one.
Are you swooning? I’m swooning. We absolutely never use the ceiling light in here, so this little guy is gonna get a ton of use. I’ve been using it in the evenings while I read a book, or just to provide a little extra mood lighting while the boys play before bed. It adds such a cozy feel and it fits right in with the rest of our home decor. Feels like it was meant to be here!
The lamp I added to our living room is this floor lamp from Target. It’s brass, it has a really sharply tapered lamp shade (which I LOVE) and it has two light bulbs in it that can be controlled separately. So, you can add just a little bit of light, or you can turn on both bulbs for some extra. It adds a ton of ambiance, and it’s perfectly out of the way behind the sofa.
adding ambient light to the living room
With this lamp, we’ve got three solid sources of ambient light in our living room. We have a lamp on our floating shelves, the sconces by the fireplace, and this new floor lamp behind the couch. That doesn’t include the lamp in the entry or the lighting in other parts of the great room. That’s just in the main seating area of the living room.
It’s taken us some time to slowly add in all of these lights, and I think that we’ve finally landed on the perfect amount of task lighting for this part of the house. I still want to play around with adding some secondary light sources in the dining room and kitchen, but this step feels great.
Why am I so anti-overhead light? I honestly couldn’t tell you. There’s something about the harshness and the intensity of it that doesn’t feel right. I would like to add a dimmer switch and see if that helps make it feel a little better. But, overall I’m just a big fan of the cozy factor that lamps bring! When the sun goes down, I’m all about putting my pajamas on and curling up with a book or a tv show. I don’t need much light for that!
