My New Favorite Corner
This post is sponsored by Article.
Do you ever wake up early with the intention of having an hour or so of quiet time before the kids wake up?
And then, do you ever notice that the kids seem to wake up the moment they hear even the tiniest noise from you…even if it’s 5:30 in the morning?
Does that ever make you want to scream with frustration?
No? Just me?
Listen – I wake up around 5:30 every weekday morning, with the goal of having a little bit of quiet time and getting some work done before the rest of my family wakes up and the hustle of the day begins. Lately, though, I’m noticing that half the time I don’t actually accomplish anything because I’ll hear the kids wake up or the dog will need to go outside or I’ll get interrupted by any of a million other things.
For a while now, I’ve been wanting to add a chair to an empty corner of my bedroom – I love the idea of getting to work here during the day (since I don’t have an office and it can be hard to work at the dining table), but I also love the idea of having a quiet place to be early in the mornings without even leaving my room!
The kind folks at Article were generous enough to send over a cozy leather chair and a side table to help me make my introvert dreams come true, and I couldn’t possibly be more thrilled about it.
If the new chair looks familiar, that’s because it’s the exact same chair I already have in my living room, the Timber Charme Chocolat chair from Article. We got our first one right after moving into this house and it immediately became my favorite place in the entire house to sit and watch tv, read a book, or just rest. I’m more than a little bit obsessed with this chair, and when I got the chance to get a second one for my bedroom, I jumped.
I love that the chair has a bit of a mid-century modern vibe but it fits right in with just about any style. It’s the most comfortable and cozy chair I’ve ever owned, and the leather only gets better and more beautiful with age.
One of the biggest reasons I wanted to get a second version of the same chair is because these are very high quality chairs that will last us forever. I could see these two chairs in the same living room in some future (many years down the line) house – they are truly a forever piece that will only get better with age. These are definitely chairs that I think will be heirloom pieces – and the kids won’t even have to fight over them because now we have two!
I’ve already been using the chair a bit in the mornings when I wake up early, and it’s honestly been such a game-changer for me. Not having to leave my room means I don’t hear the tiny little footsteps running to the bathroom 45 minutes before anyone is actually supposed to be awake. It means the dog can’t annoy me to go outside and I won’t accidentally make a noise that wakes the whole house up – it’s the perfect situation.
Corey doesn’t love the lamp turning on a half hour before he is ready to wake up, but he’s not complaining because he loves me and my sanity. And he’s learned that the sanity starts to slip if I don’t get some time to myself before the day starts.
It’s better for all of us this way, really.
I paired the chair with the beautiful Narro Black side table – it’s so heavy and well-made, and the tiny footprint is absolutely perfect for this little corner. The top is a powder-coated metal (so it’s very low-maintenance and easy to clean!), and the base is solid Carrara marble. I wanted a spot to set a drink or a notebook while I’m working, and I of course needed a spot for a small lamp – this table fit the bill perfectly.
This corner used to be complete dead space in the room and it always felt like a bit of a waste. Now, however, it feels intentional and useful and it makes me smile every time I see it.
I tucked a small basket between the chair and the wall to hold some notebooks, my planner, and a few other essentials. I also tucked a blanket over the arm and added a candle to the table so it’s the coziest little corner in the house. This is officially my new working hub when I need a quiet place to focus, and it feels kind of like my own mini (incredibly comfortable) office. I can’t even begin to tell you how much I love having this new space, and I’ve been using it every single day.
This was the last big update I wanted to make to our bedroom (!) and it feels so good to be able to call it officially done. I’ll obviously keep tweaking things over time (because no room is ever truly finished), but this little corner felt like the last piece to a puzzle and I’m just so happy with how it turned out.
