Where to Use Dark Green Paint Colors
This week, we’ve been talking a lot about paint. It’s, of course, a common topic around here – it’s one of the very best ways to make over just about anything! I recently wrote a post about my favorite dark paint colors, and it includes a ton of beautiful dark green paint colors that look great in any space (along with some other beautiful dark paint colors). But, green has become such a prevalent color in my home that I figured it needs its own post. So, today is all about the dark green paint colors I’ve used in our homes and how much I love them.
Think of it as a little love letter. To green paint.
Because that’s not weird at all.
I don’t know about you, but over the last few years I’ve really fallen in love with using green in my home decor. It has never been one of my favorite colors until recently, but now I can’t get enough. A dark and moody green is just the best addition to any space. It might have something to do with the fact that it looks great with all my houseplants. Maybe.
Or maybe it’s just a great color. I don’t know.
So today, let’s talk about a few places that are really great for some dark green paint, along with my favorite dark green paint colors.
bedrooms
Dark green is the perfect color for just about any bedroom. I used it in Jackson’s bedroom at our last house, and Grant’s room in this house is painted dark green! It’s a really calming and relaxing color, which makes it the perfect option for any bedroom.
In the photos above, Jackson’s accent wall was painted Secluded Woods by Behr, and Grant’s bedroom is painted Current Mood by Clare. Those are both really great colors that have a similar relaxing vibe.
But, dark green isn’t just for kids’ rooms. I also used it in my best friend’s room back in 2020 for one of my favorite accent walls I’ve ever done!
This is Laurel Garland by Behr, and it’s a beautiful, spa-like color that’s great for a primary bedroom. I love it as an accent wall in Parisa’s room, because it really pops against the white and gives a really sophisticated look while still keeping a light and airy feel (thanks to three of the walls being white).
Bottom line? Whether you do it on one wall or all four (plus the ceiling!) dark green is a great color for the bedroom.
family rooms
I’ve talked about this before, but we knew that we wanted to use a dark green paint color in our bonus room upstairs before we even moved into this house. We currently only have it as an accent wall, but someday I fully intend to shiplap the rest of this room and paint it all dark green! I love the cozy and welcoming feel of this color, and I think it’s the absolute perfect color for a room where we like to snuggle up and watch movies!
The color in the room above is Black Evergreen by Behr. I can see myself using it again and again and again – its’ truly one of my favorite dark green paint colors of all time!
The Entryway
I was a little nervous to paint our entry dark green a couple of years ago. I worried that it would feel a little imposing or intense right when you walked in the door. But you know what? It has the opposite effect! We have really tall ceilings in our entry and family room (18 feet!) and the dark green right when you walk in feels like a giant hug that says “welcome!”. It’s cozy and inviting and one of my favorite choices in our home. We used the color Bonsai Trunk by Behr, and II love the muddy tones and how it leans a little brown in certain lights.
I’ve thought about repainting this space many times over the last few years, just to try something new, but I keep coming back to how cozy and like home it feels. I just can’t bring myself to let it go – and to me, that’s a sign that it’s the right color for the space!
Accent Pieces & Cabinets
I love dark green as an accent in any room! It’s great for dressers, cabinets, bookcases, and more. In the photo above, I used Hunt Club Green by Rust-Oleum – one of my favorite go-to spray paint colors. It’s dark and sophisticated and perfect for just about any accent piece.
Dark green would look amazing on kitchen or bathroom cabinets. You know I think it’s great for bookcases, because I painted all of the bookcases in Grant’s room a dark and moody green! And, one of my favorite dresser makeovers was dark green, too!
garages or workspaces
I didn’t realize it until I was writing this post, but I’ve painted two garages dark green! My garage is largely painted Meteorological by Behr, and Parisa’s garage is painted Rainforest by Behr. Both colors are so beautiful and make the garage feel really elevated. I am a firm believer in taking the time to make sure your workspaces feel inspiring and beautiful, and I think the garage is no exception! Even if you don’t use it as a workshop, why not take the time to make sure the spot where you park your car, store your things, or do whatever it is you do out there is beautiful and welcoming?!
There’s no reason not to put a little extra effort into it!
And that’s what I’ve got for you today. Obviously dark green is a great paint color for just about any space – as is any other paint color you love! But, I hope this was a fun little exercise in thinking about ways you can use this color, and I hope I’ve inspired you to give it a shot. Be sure to let me know the next time you paint something in your home dark green!
