Adding an ELFA Closet to Parisa’s Play Room
Every once in a while an opportunity presents itself for me to do a project in someone’s house other than my own. It’s always so fun to pop into a friend or family member’s house and leave it a little better than I found it, and this is one of those projects! My best friend & neighbor, Parisa, has been struggling for a while with the organization in her kids’ play room closet. But thankfully, I knew just the fix. I brought over an ELFA closet system and completely transformed the closet in an afternoon.
Before, it was just a standard, builder-grade closet. It had one shelf and one hanging rod, and that’s it. She was storing her kids’ dress up clothes and craft supplies in there, but it was impossible to find anything. She also was hoping to add in some LEGO storage and just generally make things easier to keep clean.
Mission accomplished! Here’s a little before and after action for you.
Installing an ELFA Closet System
This was my second time working with the ELFA system and I was just as impressed as I was when I used it in our bonus room last year. It’s so easy to install.
Here’s how it works:
- You install a metal hanging bar horizontally at the height you want your system to be.
- Then, you hook the vertical bars on the horizontal bar.
- You add your shelf brackets where you want them
- And then you add in the rest of the organization components!
- You can also use covers for the brackets, the vertical bars, and more to make it look even more custom and high-end.
Does it sound like I’ve overly simplified it? I promise I didn’t, it’s truly that easy.
From start to finish, including removing the old closet system, touching up paint, and adding everything back into the closet, it took me three hours. That’s less than an afternoon for everything, and if we’re being honest it includes a solid half hour of sitting on the floor chatting with Parisa once everything was installed.
Can’t really beat that.
Where Else Could You Use This?
Obviously, we chose to use this ELFA closet system to organize a play room closet, but there are a zillion other places you could use it. This exact pre-designed closet would also be great for a linen closet, an entry closet, a coat closet, a corner of the garage, or even a kids’ room closet! The options are endless.
You can see all of the pre-designed ELFA spaces under $1,000 here if you want to browse and see what strikes your fancy. They’ve got organization solutions for just about everything you can possibly imagine. And, after seeing how the over-the-door organizer works, I think I might have to get one for every closet in my house. I’m not even kind of kidding.
