My Favorite Above the Bed Art
Looking for the perfect above the bed art? I’ve got you covered with tons of options today!
Just me, or do you sometimes struggle to figure out what to put above your bed? Finding the perfect above the bed art feels like such a monumental task to me. It’s a really large area to decorate, and it feels so personal. This is one area I always overthink when I’m decorating my home.
Up until recently, we had the exact same art hanging over our bed since we moved into this house. I still love it (it’s beautiful!) but almost five years in, I was itching for a change. Our bedroom hasn’t seen much evolution since we finished it shortly after moving in. I’ve really been wanting to refresh a few things, and I decided to start with our above the bed art!
I chose this smaller piece that I found on Amazon, and I’m in love. The smaller scale makes it feel really different, and it’s so much more neutral. My bedroom instantly felt a little quieter and more traditional. I’m debating getting an art light to hang above it – what do you think?
How to Decorate Above Your Bed
If you’re looking for inspiration for art above your bed, look no further. Here are some of my favorite ways to style that big, blank space.
1. One Large Piece of Framed Art
This is usually my go-to method. It’s simple, creates a nice focal point in the room, and doesn’t require too much effort. The art we’ve had above our bed for the last five years is this canvas print from Juniper Print Shop, framed with this really affordable mega-sized frame. This was a really low-budget way to get some giant art in here!
Here are some of the other prints I eyed when I was shopping for a replacement.
- Woman Laying Down Print
- Somerset
- Vintage Style Framed Landscape Canvas
- Oak Tree
- Tree Sketch Art
- Country Cottage Landscape
- Moody Cloud Print
- Vintage Gold Framed Landscape Art
- Moody Floral Art
- Yosemite Valley Painting
- Framed Canvas Landscape
- Stormy Sea Art Print
2. Go With Two or Three Framed Pieces
Another beautiful option is to find two or three coordinating prints and hang them up next to one another. This is a great option if you want to fill the space a bit more but don’t want to splurge on a larger piece of art. Here are a few gorgeous options if you want to go this route:
- Wildflower Duo Art
- Sandy Beach Triptych
- Apple Tree Sketch Art Trio
- Moody Horizon Duo
- Wildflower Field
- Minimalist Floral Trio
- Vintage Botanical Prints
- Apple Tree Branch Split Prints
- Country Field Prints
- Vintage Tree Sketch, Set of 3
3. Add a Gallery Wall
If you really don’t want to leave a lot of empty space in the space above your bed, try adding a whole gallery wall! You can gather a bunch of smaller pieces of art that you like and hang them up together. There are endless possibilities here – you can have it go the width of your bed or spill out over the edges. You could keep it really symmetrical or you could let it be a free-flowing gallery wall. If you like color, you can keep it bright and full of color, or you can stick to a more neutral color palette.
4. Keep It Minimalist
Of course, you don’t have to hang anything above your headboard! Intentional negative space can be so beautiful, and if you really want a restful and quiet room, this may be the route for you. There’s no hard and fast rule that says you have to have some wall decor above your bed. You can stick to a really beautiful throw pillow or two, or a more elaborate headboard. Maybe you have some beautiful wallpaper in the room and you just can’t stand the idea of covering it up! There’s absolutely nothing wrong with a blank wall, so don’t be afraid to make the bed the focal point of your bedroom, and not the decor above it.
5. Add Some Lighting Above the Bed
As I was browsing on Pinterest for inspiration for my own room, I noticed that a lot of the rooms I really liked had wall lamps or pendants! I think I’ll likely go with an art light in our room, but that remains to be seen. Want to see some options to get inspired? Here you go:
- Tulip Glass Wall Sconce
- Set of 2 Classic Wall Sconces
- Ribbed Shade Vintage Style Sconce
- Swing Arm Art Light
- Brass Arched Art Light
- Battery Operated Dimmable Art Lamp
- Battery Operated Double Arm Art Light
- Battery Operated Wall Sconces
- Mid-Century Globe Sconce
- Vintage Style Wall Sconces
- Swing Arm Wall Sconces
- Tiffany Style Wall Sconce
6. Get Creative With It!
The decor above your bed doesn’t have to be a piece of artwork! There are so many other wall hangings – you can add hanging baskets, a tapestry, a small shelf, or literally anything else. We used to have a giant faux deer head hanging above our bed! Don’t be afraid to embrace your creativity and think about what makes you happy here. Remember that it’s just a couple of holes in the wall, in the end! If you try something and don’t love it, it’s easy to change.

Hopefully, these tips make choosing art for above your bed feel less overwhelming and a bit more fun. At the end of the day, it’s all about picking something that speaks to you and fits your space. Don’t overthink it—trust your gut, and you’ll end up with something you love waking up to every day. Happy decorating!
I love all the decorations but I still don’t like the idea of hanging something heavy above my head when I’m sleeping for safety reason.
Yeah! I absolutely agree but I’m so keen to put something up there. You can ensure that things are really secure and nailed in etc too – so as long as you don’t live somewhere where there are earthquakes etc (I live in the UK so no issues!) I think there is a workaround!
I loved the 5 pictures 3 large 2 smaller lined up and sort of stacked on each other in a straight line above the bed. Simple but it made a huge statement to me when i saw it. I don’t like cluttery walls especially in my bedroom I thought that was perfect and the best for my taste i have seen to date.
thank you for your attention to this area.
So glad the post helped!
I put a long canvas picture I love on the back wall in my bedroom. I love it cause it’s a pic of pRt of a tree with birds. My walls in my bedroom are a dark brown and this picture stands out cause of the white flowers. I have white in my door and big closet doors and white ceiling. Soo there is a black dresser on the other wall. What should I put there. ? Another canvas picture of what. Mirror? I am frustrated!
I always love a good mirror above a dresser! They’re so functional to have in the bedroom and always make the room feel bigger. 🙂
I really enjoyed your style only after waiting forever for all your adds to display. Just a suggestion….take a few and put elsewhere,my goodness.
Sorry to hear the site was loading slowly! It’s been acting up in the last few days, I’m working on it. 🙂
Finding the perfect decor above the bed is challenging. I would not do family pictures above or around the bed. I wouldn’t add any actually in the bedroom; only bc when you and your husband are having an intimate moment, you don’t want to be looking at pics of your family or children! I would add pictures of a landscape, or a serene waterscape that will evoke peacefulness and relaxation but also something that inspires you. Possibly a beautiful mountain range that symbolizes strength, courage, determination and beauty…all the things your marriage possesses. Be careful hanging heavy or large objects over your head. Research Feng shui bedroom options and see if any of those suggestions are appealing to you. There can be strange suggestions, but good take aways too.
Great tips, Jen! Family photos in the bedroom have never really bothered me, but I know a lot of people are weirded out by it! You can go here to see what we ended up doing in our room, if you’re interested! 🙂
The Gallery Wall is cool and amazing. I love pictures and I want a lot of them in my bedroom. Although the idea is simple, the result is an elegant display of memories. Thank you for sharing these awesome decorating ideas.
I agree, Gail – gallery walls are one of my favorite ways to decorate!
That’s some amazing ideas! Normally I would put a large scale photo that I like the most in my room 🙂
I love big photos on the wall! That’s definitely something I’m considering for our room, too. 🙂
These are some really gorgeous ideas for hanging art above the bed. I especially love the quote art! We’re in the middle of a master bedroom redo, so this is just perfectly timed and gave me some great ideas to think about!
I’m glad it was helpful! 🙂 The quotes are one of my favorites too!
